Happy New Year! Wow, can you believe it? Another year gone and another year to look forward to. It’s a new year, and it’s a new you! This is the time when you scroll through your picture reel of memories from 2016 and take a deep look into what you’ve done, what you’ve accomplished and where you are now. This is also the time to reflect on last year’s events and cultivate ideas on how you can make this year an even better year than 2016. Now I believe that setting a New Year’s Resolution is a great goal but only if you truly make the commitment to stick to it throughout the entire year.

So this year, if you’re the type of person that’s tired of the same ole’ cliché resolutions like, going to the gym and starting a diet, take a look at a few different options for New Year’s Resolutions that you may consider.

  1. Check Yourself: Pick up the phone and schedule your physical! While I’m sure many of you out there are not inclined to go to the doctor, an annual physical is very important for your health and overall well-being. Plus, it only takes a short time, and then you don’t have to think about it again for the rest of the year.

  2. Check Your Ride: Now that you’ve gotten your physical out of the way it’s time to get a physical on your motor vehicle. You may not realize the importance of keeping your car well-maintained but it could be the difference between it lasting more than 100,000 miles.

  3. Day Tripper: Make a resolution to take a day or weekend trip for yourself and a loved one a few times this year. What better goal to have than to save some money for a small trip and enjoy your life to the fullest. Imagine the picture reel for 2017 you’ll be adding to.

  4. Give to Others: Go through your belongings and give away anything that you haven’t used in a year. If it’s been an entire year since you’ve worn that old top it’s likely that you’re not going to suddenly miss it if you pass it on to someone in need. Giving to others – even in small gestures like a few old clothing items is a great resolution to have and can be attained in many aspects.

  5. Make a Fun Budget: Set a budget this year! Much like my previous resolution to take a day or weekend trip, perhaps you want to set a budget to go on that cruise you’ve been longing for or maybe you just simply want to save more money. Whatever the case may be, you can make having a budget fun by rewarding yourself after your goal. Just remember not to splurge too much!

The difference between the resolutions I’ve laid out above are that they seem to be more manageable. The more gratification you receive from setting your goals and meeting those goals, the more willing you will be to take on another challenge or goal. By the end of 2017 you can look back and realize that you accomplished more this year than any other year.

P.S. – I have a challenge for you. One of my closest friends gave me this idea. This month (yes this month – don’t wait) sit down and write a letter to yourself about where you hope to see yourself by the end of this year. Put it in a safe place and at the end of the year, take out the letter and read it. This is a great way to reflect on yourself, your goals and accomplishments.

Wishing you and your family a very successful, healthy and Happy New Year!
